Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life threatening.  The most common allergens in school aged children are peanuts, eggs, tree nuts (e.g. cashews), cows milk, fish and shellfish, wheat, soy, sesame and certain insect venom (particularly bee stings).

Two preventative strategies that we continually emphasise with students and parents are:

  • Do not send food to school that may have anaphylactic triggers
  • Do not share food.

You are urged to continually bear these two preventative strategies in mind and reinforce them with your children.
